Upgrade Windows Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Beta (Ultimate)

Upgrading Windows Vista Enterprise (SP1) isn’t a valid upgrade path. An information/error message will be displayed that it isn’t possible to upgrade to Windows 7 Beta.

To work around the issue do the following:
I do not know if it can cause any problems but so far I don’t have any issues after doing the upgrade from Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Beta.

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Start regedit.exe
    Never use the register editor (regedit.exe) if you do not know what you are doing. Worst case will prevent your computer from working after a reboot.
  3. Navigate to the following branch
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
  4. Change the EditionID to “Business”
  5. Change the ProductName to “Windows Vista ™ Business”
  6. Run the setup.exe from the Windows 7 DVD (or a local folder)

After upgrading to Windows 7 I recommend you to install the following updates:
